Flamingos at Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary
Ras Al Khor protects tidal flats, mangroves, lagoons, and salt-marsh habitat at the edge of central Dubai. Greater flamingos are its most recognizable visitors, making the sanctuary an unusual opportunity to watch wetland birds within a major city.
The sanctuary's official visitor information says that the flamingo hide can be used throughout the year, while winter brings the largest gatherings of migratory waterbirds. October through March is generally the most comfortable and rewarding season for a visit.
Visiting the hides
Dubai Municipality currently lists opening hours of 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. from October through March and 6:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. from April through September. Families and individuals may walk in during opening hours, and entry is free. Access can still change because of maintenance, weather, or wildlife management, so check the official information on the day of travel.
Use the designated hides. The official visitor guidance recommends bringing binoculars, a camera, and a bird guide. No food, drinks, pets, or smoking are allowed inside the hides, and visitors must remain behind fences and “No Entry” signs.
The sanctuary is protected habitat, not a walk-through attraction. Visitors should not attempt to enter closed wetland areas, feed birds, or seek a closer view outside authorized observation points.
